We might see Donald Glover portray the younger version of another iconic character.
According to Collider, Warner Bros. has its eyes set on three potential candidates for the potential prequel. Ryan Gosling, Ezra Miller, and Donald Glover are three actors who might incarnate the upcoming Willy Wonka movie.
Previously, the studio has collaborated with two of its candidates already. Ezra Miller gave life to the scarlet speedster in the superhero team up, Justice League. His portrayal of Barry Allen received a mixed response from the audience. Mainly because of the character’s different personality from his comic book counterpart. Some cited that his version was more akin to Wally West. The latter is the second character to take on the mantle of the Flash. Although Miller’s quirkiness and comedic timing might be more appropriate if he lands this role.
On the other hand, the character of the star of Blade Runner 2049 received a better response. In part, because of the film’s previous success. If the upcoming film picks up a light-hearted tone, then he might have to loosen up a bit.
In Glover’s case, this would be the first time the studio collaborates with him if he becomes the titular character.
In fact, he is not unfamiliar with portraying younger versions. He recently portrayed a young Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story. The movie itself is one of the most recent Star Wars films to receive a mixed response from critics and audiences alike. Since his appearance in the controversial music video, This Is America, Glover has a more active presence in the entertainment media.
The character of Willy Wonka was famously portrayed by two talented actors. Most recently, Jonnhy Depp wore the iconic purple hat in the 2005 movie, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. Before Depp, late actor Gene Wilder was the face of the character in the 1971 film.
