Director Francis Ford Coppola’s instant classic, The Godfather, just released a trailer for the 50th-anniversary edition of the motion picture. Not only is there a new trailer featuring a look at the new 4K restoration, but Comicbook is also reporting that Paramount Pictures has also announced that they will be having a limited re-release of the theatrical version for a limited run, starting on February 25th. This will be the first time that The Godfather has gotten the 4K treatment. Coppola had some words in regards to the celebration:
I am very proud of The Godfather, which certainly defined the first third of my creative life. With this 50th-anniversary tribute, I’m especially proud Mario Puzo’s THE GODFATHER, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone is included, as it captures Mario and my original vision in definitively concluding our epic trilogy. It’s also gratifying to celebrate this milestone with Paramount alongside the wonderful fans who’ve loved it for decades, younger generations who still find it relevant today, and those who will discover it for the first time.
Leave the Standard HD and Take the 4K
Francis Ford Coppola’s American Zoetrope production has been working on this new 50th-anniversary restoration of The Godfather for the past 3 years. The production company has also been working on restoring The Godfather Part II and The Godfather Part III.
As part of the 4K restoration process, the team at American Zoetrope sifted through over 300 cartons of film stock, spent over 4,000 hours on repairing any film stains, tears, and other anomalies in the negatives, and another 1,000 hours on color restoration. With every single aspect of the process being overseen by the legendary director, Francis Ford Coppola, himself.
